New Jersey's Undergraduates Meet the Challenge
Posted By: Joseph V. Palazzolo on 08/10/08

Sigma Pi Fraternity's 49th Biennial Convocation has come and gone and New Jersey has shown - once again - that it is a Powerhouse. Over the last two years, we challenged our undergraduates to be the best and they responded...

Our men at Rowan University's Zeta-Chi Chapter capped a three-year reorganization by winning the Most Improved Chapter Award. Our chapters at The College of New Jersey (Theta-Delta), Monmouth University (Delta-Beta), and William Paterson University (Theta-Tau) were each recognized for being in the Top 25 of all Sigma Pi chapters. The College of New Jersey and Monmouth University went on to receive Top 12 awards before The College of New Jersey was named the #1 Chapter in the Nation! Sage Brad Kotuski at William Paterson passed a resolution creating a new reimbursement program for all undergraduate chapters while Sage Sal Fiore at Monmouth passed a resolution creating new philanthropic awards. New Jersey's delegation went to Convocation with the intent to make waves and they did!

There are some 150 Sigma Pi chapters and colonies across the United States and Canada - only 8 of those groups are in New Jersey. Each group has their own Chapter Director and Faculty Advisor and there are some 30 Province Archons (regional directors) in the Fraternity. That said, for the second straight biennium New Jersey's alumni volunteers won every single volunteer award given out by Sigma Pi Fraternity!

Monmouth University's Faculty Advisor, Dr. Joseph B. Mosca, won the #1 Faculty Advisor Award! This is the first time that Sigma Pi has awarded this distinction and there is no better man to accept this award than "Doc." Past Grand Sage and current TCNJ Chapter Director Don Cox was rewarded for his extraordinary efforts with the #1 Chapter Director Award. PGS Cox has been the model Chapter Director since our group at TCNJ was chartered and Sigma Pi rightly recognized him for his efforts. Finally, I was humbled and honored to win the #1 Province Archon Award. What can I say? When you have the undergraduate talent that we have in New Jersey, it's easy for guys like Dr. Mosca, PGS Cox, and I to excel in our positions!

As advisors we challenged our young men across this state to become the very best that they can be; as alumni of this Fraternity you expect your undergraduate chapters to perform at the height of their abilities. Our younger brothers heard our challenge and saw your expectations and they responded. Let's join them in their efforts!

Every alumnus can play a part in building on this Convocation's success by donating to the New Jersey Fund. Donations of $10, $25, $50, or a dollar amount that fits your budget will help this fund grow and every donation is 100% tax-deductible.

To donate to the New Jersey Fund via a secure online form, you can visit https://www.sigmapi.org/edfund/donate/ When filling in your information, be sure to choose "Endowed Scholarships" and type "New Jersey Fund" in the donation description line! Your donation will immediately be directed into the New Jersey Fund.

For those alumni who already donate to Sigma Pi Fraternity, please consider re-directing this year's donation to the New Jersey Fund. Simply write "New Jersey Fund" on the memo of your check and the donation will be diverted to our fund. First-time donors who would prefer to send a check can make a check payable to the "Sigma Pi Educational Foundation" and send it to P.O. Box 1897, Brentwood, TN 37024. Be sure to write "New Jersey Fund" on the memo of your check.

Our undergraduates answered the challenge and now it's our turn. Let's build on this Convocation's success by investing in Sigma Pi's future in New Jersey!
